Save the Children International is a registered INGO in Croatia, currently responding to the high influx of refugees and migrants through Croatia and supporting the government and other organisations in responding to humanitarian needs of refugees and migrants.
As an IYCF-E Counsellor, your responsibilities will include:
Identification, assessment and referral:
• Identify and assess mothers/caregivers and their infants to identify specific feeding support needs
• Refer children for Child Protection case management and nutritional or medical care or as required
• Ensure caregivers are aware of available services, and advocate for caregivers, if necessary, to access appropriate services and support
Awareness-raising and counselling:
• Provide one on one infant and young child feeding counselling for mothers / caregivers of breastfed and non-breastfed infants, including helping mothers to overcome breastfeeding difficulties
• Raise awareness on best feeding practices for infants and young children in the emergency amongst family members and travel groups (to create an enabling environment for mothers to breastfeed) including the active promotion of breastfeeding
• Raise awareness on best feeding practices for infants and young children amongst other actors, including humanitarian organisations, volunteer groups and the authorities
Set-up, maintenance and facilitation of activities in the mother-baby areas:
• Ensure a private and safe space for counselling and breastfeeding and feeding of young children
• Meet the basic needs of mothers and infants through targeted provision of appropriate items
Capacity building and supervision:
• Provide on-going supportive supervision to volunteers to ensure quality messaging and activities consistent with programme guideline
• Organize and provide Capacity building of professionals and volunteers in basic IYCF-E (infant and young children feeding in Emergencies)

Znanja i kvalifikacije:
Essential
• Applicants must be Croatian nationals, or holders of a work visa and resident’s permit
• Ability to relocate within the country if required
• Good written and spoken English
• Voluntary or paid work experience within a non-governmental organization
• Keen to learn new skills or develop skills on Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergencies (IYCF-E) and behaviour change approach
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Flexible and positive approach to working in a stressful and changing environment with limited resources.
• Able to work with limited supervision, improvise and take initiative in face of unexpected challenges
• A commitment to the aims and objectives of Save the Children
• Able to carry out the responsibilities of the role in a way which reflects Save the Children's commitment to safeguarding children in accordance with the Child Safeguarding Policy
Desirable
• Arabic, Farsi or Pashto language skills
• Experience working within a health care delivery organisation (e.g. hospital, birth centre, community centre) or as a breastfeeding / mother support counsellor
• Knowledge of breastfeeding care and education principles, practices, procedures and techniques
• Undergone structured training programme /course on provision of breastfeeding support
• International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)
