We are hiring an Automation Engineer / PLC Commissioning Engineer to join a small but fast-growing, founder-led automation company based in Istria, Croatia.
The founder is an experienced freelance Automation engineer working on international projects and you will work directly with him.
We are open to both junior and senior engineers:
Junior candidates,
• Will learn Siemens automation extremely fast,
• Will work on real commissioning tasks much earlier than in corporate environments.
Senior candidates,
• Will gain autonomy, project ownership, and freedom from corporate bureaucracy,
• Will have the opportunity to shape the technical direction of the company.
Daily/Project Responsibilities:
• PLC programming in Siemens TIA Portal and WinCC,
• On-site commissioning: I/O checks, process startup, device configuration,
• Troubleshooting drives, sensors, safety devices, Profinet, Profisafe,
• Reading and interpreting electrical schematics,
• Working with heating systems, furnaces, conveyors, lifts,
Integration of GSD files, network topologies, safety addressing,
• 24V electrical troubleshooting,
• Translating customer requirements into automation solutions,

Posebne pogodnosti:
This role includes periods of intensive on-site work and overtime; however, this is balanced with significantly more free days compared to standard employment structures.
As your independence, technical capability, and ownership increase, your compensation will grow accordingly.
When not commissioning on site work can be done from home.

Znanja i kvalifikacije:
Required (all candidates):
• Strong engineering mindset — intelligent, proactive, analytical problem-solver,
• Genuine interest in industrial automation and commissioning,
• Ability to travel internationally (minimum 6 months),
• Great English communication skills,
• Ability to work independently, take responsibility and make decisions,
• Basic understanding of control systems or willingness to learn quickly,
• Ability to read or learn to read electrical schematics,
• Be able to handle pressure well.
Junior Level
• Basic familiarity with PLC programming (any platform; Siemens preferred),
• Interest in learning Siemens TIA Portal and WinCC (Comfort or Unified),
• Motivation to rapidly develop commissioning skills,
• Curiosity about drives, sensors, safety devices, and networks,
• Fast learner with ambition to grow into an independent commissioning engineer.
Senior Level
• Solid experience with Siemens TIA Portal (PLC programming + hardware configuration),
• Experience with WinCC (Comfort Panels and/or WinCC Unified),
• Strong troubleshooting ability: drives (G120), sensors, safety devices (Pilz/Euchner), Profinet/Profisafe networks,
Experience working with GSD files, network topology, device configuration,
• Ability to independently execute commissioning tasks and lead parts of a project,
• Familiarity with PID control, heating systems, furnaces, or process automation (optional but valuable),
• Desire to work in a small company with high autonomy and technical ownership.
