Gap Medics serves a very specific niche market: We provide international placements for aspiring medical students aged 16-25, most of whom are from the UK and the US to give them a first-hand insight into the work of hospital doctors in exciting locations around the world.

Our dedication to providing a well-organised placement and outstanding customer service in our own student guesthouses in every destination has been the foundation of tremendous growth – from our launch in 2010 to a global organisation with programmes in Europe, Africa and the Caribbean.

Maintaining consistently high standards of service alongside this growth is a considerable challenge, and is the reason we are seeking an exceptional new manager to lead our programme in Pula.

Your role as Manager - Student Programme

You will take a very hands-on lead in a small team that must pull together to deliver a wide range of services often under considerable pressure.

A significant part of your time will be devoted to our hospital partnerships – building strong working relationships with doctors and other staff, briefing them about new students, planning and scheduling, and troubleshooting day-to-day problems that arise when students are on placement.

You will also have overall responsibility for the hospitality service we deliver at our 40-bed student house in Pula. You will do this through a team of approximately five staff, who between them will provide catering, housekeeping and 24-hour student supervision. You will necessarily take a very hands-on approach in this team to inspire, train and monitor performance, also stepping in to help wherever and whenever needed.

Delivering an outstanding customer service that is professional but with a very friendly, family feel is at the heart of our identity. As the Programme Manager you will lead by example and ensure your entire team embraces this ethos.

Please note, this is not a position with a set routine or fixed working hours. On an example day you may find yourself recruiting and briefing new Doctors within the hospital to mentor our students, returning to the house to help making beds for new arrivals, preparing the programme budget for the following month then having dinner with students to informally gain feedback about their day.

As the manager in overall charge of our Croatia programme, you will hold a senior position reporting to the Company Director and working in co-operation with the Head of Finance and Head of Customer Service in our UK Head Office.

More than anything, we are looking for candidates with the personality, confidence and ambition to fit this role.

  • As a minimum requirement you will:
  • Have demonstrable experience of managing a small team to meet challenging targets.
  • Be very confident, highly professional and immaculately presented.
  • Be experienced and comfortable working independently and managing your own work schedule to deliver on overall objectives.
  • Have a natural flair for delivering outstanding customer service
  • Be a naturally hands-on manager, always ready to assist with work at any level whilst maintaining an overall lead.
Salary and Benefits
  • Starting salary for this role is HRK 12,000 per month (gross).
  • Following successful completion of probation, you will be eligible for a performance related bonus.
  • A laptop, smart phone and travel allowance will be provided.
