Discipline Department Manager
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
- Manages one or several discipline departments in a center: e.g Electrical or Deputy for Instrumentation
- Ensures the level of competencies and capabilities (tools, procedures, organization and resources) of the discipline in the center.Ensures the delivery of engineering deliverables to the projects by allocating the resources and coordinating with other disciplines.
Reporting lines and interactions:
- Hierarchically reports to: Engineering Manager.
- Operationally reports to: Engineering Manager.
- Directly supervises (operationally): Lead discipline engineers, engineers.
Key interactions (internally, externally):
- Project managers, other discipline department managers
- Clients engineering managers, vendors and subcontractors
Job scope (budget, management, specific criteria):
- Size of the team: 20 to 50

- Engineering degree, must have
- 20 years of experience including lead discipline experience, must have
MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Is responsible for the management of the Engineering teams. This includes the recruitment of qualified individuals, monitoring of staff performance, and management of resources as well as allocation of resources to projects and proposals. Further, maintaining and developing the proficiency of Department personnel in terms of:
- Working methods
- Technical training
- Career planning of individuals with the HR teams
- May defines the orientations, objectives and budget of the department.
- Defines the organization of the discipline, processes and methods of work within the centre engineering policy and ensures their implementation.
- Represents the discipline towards management, clients, vendors, subcontractors and projects
- Initiates, implements and maintains the QHSE policies.
- Ensures the department adheres to financial and staff utilization budgets and targets.
- Is responsible for final review of man/hours, MTO quantities and possibly cost estimate on proposals.
- Is responsible for technical assurance of projects
- Identifies and qualifies new vendors and new subcontractors.
- When applicable, ensures the project deliverables meet local and federal government’s requirements for professional engineer’s sealing and stamping.
Type of activities:
- Covers all types of activities for all disciplines (conception, feed, detail design, EPC projects)
- Size of project: Above 250 000 engineering man/hours projects or above 500 million Euros
